Gladys Cooper played the part of a touring newspaper beauty in the musical "Havana", with only a couple of lines of her own in what was one of her earliest chances to make a mark in her acting career.

Gladys, aged 19, was earning 5 a week for her appearances in "Havana".

"Havana" ran through practically the whole of 1908.

On the last day of the "Havana" run Gladys, now aged twenty, married her first husband, Herbert John Buckmaster "Buck".  They married on 12th December 1908 at St. George's, Hanover Square, London.
