"Cynara", a play from the novel "An Imperfect Lover" about a happily married man, Jim Warlock, who meets a girl at a beauty competition who would kill herself when she realised she could not break up his marriage.

Gladys Cooper played a minor role in the play, that of the wife,
Clemency Warlock.

Celia Johnson fully established her West End reputation with the main role of the girl, Doris Lea.

The play lasted for two hundred and fifty performances over a thirty two week period but would be the last real success that Gladys Cooper would have at the Playhouse.
