Gladys Cooper

Out of the Question
St. Martin's Theatre, London

"Out of the Question", a strange little comedy about an impoverished scientist trying to convince an American university that his family life did not make him an unsuitable man for one of their jobs.

The play was first produced in 1968 and ran into 1969.  During this time on December 18th, 1968, Gladys Cooper reached her eightieth birthday.  Her family felt that this called for some celebration and on her birthday night the theatre was filled entirely with Gladys' friends.

By the end of January 1969 the play had broken all the St. Martin's Theatre box office records.
